Transfer boost at Villa Park.
Aston Villa are set for a transfer boost with the capture of little-known French midfielder Yacouba Sylla as manager Paul Lambert attempts to steer the club out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Aston Villa 8/13 to go down: Premier League relegation betting
Sylla plays in Ligue 2 – the French equivalent of the Championship – for Clermont Foot, but Lambert is ready to spend £1.7million to bring him to the Premier League in the hope he can spark a revival of the club’s fortunes.
Villa are in desperate need of a boost to help get the club out of the relegation zone and 22-year-old defensive midfielder Sylla looks like being Lambert’s first breakthrough in the transfer market during the January window.
The Villa Park club missed out on their number one transfer target when Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko opted to join Newcastle United instead.
Lambert’s transfer activity in spending £23million in the summer has failed to spark a revival in Aston Villa’s fortunes with his young squad struggling to produce consistent results in the Premier League to leave them firmly in trouble.
