Samba headed to London on Wednesday after it was understood that QPR activated a release clause of around £10million in his contract with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, and he has successful completed the formalities of a medical.

The former Blackburn defender moved to Russia a year ago, but jumped at the chance of a return to England as Harry Redknapp finally ended his search for a centre-back following links with Jonas Olsson, William Gallas, Michael Dawson and Joleon Lescott.
Samba is now expected to agree terms and complete the transfer before the end of the day, despite Anzhi Makhachkala being in the dark somewhat over the Congolese defender’s exit from the club.
Anzhi manager Guus Hiddink had said: “He left for England yesterday. I hope that today or tomorrow we’ll find out what has really happened. It’s a shame to talk about this but he didn’t even say goodbye, he didn’t explain anything to us. Whatever happens to you in life, you should take into account the people with whom you work with.
“It’s not a great situation for us. He started the pre-season camps with us, but then suddenly in the last few days he started to make contact with England, that’s despite still being on contract with Anzhi. Now we have a new situation. We need to be realistic and see what we can do before the transfer window closes.”
Harry Redknapp will hope that Samba can help steady things at the back, not least because Ryan Nelsen has left the club for FC Toronto.
