Little-known French midfielder makes Villa Park switch.
Little-known French midfielder Yacouba Sylla has completed a move to Premier League strugglers Aston Villa after signing a three-and-half year contract at Villa Park, the club have confirmed.
Villa manager Paul Lambert was keen to make a breakthrough in the transfer market this month to provide a boost to his struggling squad, and £2million man Sylla is the man he hopes can help the club in the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder, a former French under-21 international, was spotted by Lambert’s scouts playing in Ligue 2 – the equivalent of the Championship in France – in the heart of the midfield for Clermont Foot.
He arrived at Villa Park on Thursday morning and underwent a medical before agreeing personal terms and being unveiled as an Aston Villa player.
Sylla will go into the Aston Villa squad for Saturday’s trip to Everton and he will be looking to make a major impact by helping to steer the club out of the relegation zone after a miserable run of form left them 19th in the table.
Having spent £23million in the summer, Sylla is Villa’s first signing of the January transfer window. Defender Alan Hutton has been the only player to leave the club having agreed a loan deal with La Liga side Real Mallorca.
