Arsenal reportedly failed in their attempts to sign Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue according to talkSPORT.

Arsene Wenger is said to have to have put in an offer for the 24 year old after preferring a bid for the French international over a possible bid for West Ham’s Mohamed Diame.

Capoue has been linked with interest from Fulham and Everton but seemingly the Ligue 1 side were unwilling to do business on deadline-day.

The player’s agent Mino Raiola told L’Equipe: “The Toulouse president didn’t need to sell during this window. The asking price was a barrier every time.”

Toulouse has apparently demanded £14m for the defensive midfielder, a price that Wenger was apparently unwilling to meet.

Arsenal’s only January transfer window purchase came in the form of Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal, who joined the North London club in the final moments of the window for a fee in the region of £8.5m.

Wenger did manage to loan out Marouane Chamakh, Johan Djourou and Emmanuel Frimpong to West Ham, Hannover and Fulham respectively.
