Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has put Manchester United and Manchester City on red alert after admitting he is likely to leave the Britannia Stadium in the summer.

The 25-year-old Begovic has the subject of strong links that he will join Manchester United in a deal between £9million and £15million at the end of the season, and he has fuelled the speculation about the move by admitting he will leave Stoke at the end of the season.
Manchester City have also been linked with a swoop, while Liverpool have been another club keeping tabs on the Serbian international and he has refused to be drawn on where he might be playing his football next season.
Begovic’s likely departure from Stoke emerged after the club signed young England goalkeeper Jack Butland in the transfer window from Birmingham City for £5million. He will not move to the Britannia Stadium until the end of the season when Begovic is set to be sold at a much greater fee than the £3million Stoke paid to sign him from Portsmouth.
“I read in the papers that I said no to City and yes to United,” Begovic told Oslobodjenje. “But the truth is, I haven’t decided on anything. I didn’t say yes or no to anybody. I haven’t signed anything – no contract, no pre-contract. But I believe that Stoke didn’t buy Butland to be a reserve so I think I’m going to be sold in the summer.
“To whom? I can’t move to a smaller club and I also know that some top clubs are interested in me. They are also the only ones who can afford the fee. Now I’m just happy that January is over. It was a hard month for us, so many rumours. Now, we can focus on our games again.”
The 25 year old Bosnian international has been in fine form this term, fueling speculation that one of the Premier League’s ‘big’ clubs would make an offer.
It is therefore perhaps not a huge surprise that the signing of youngster Butland were to pave the way for a Potters exit.
Begovic has made 90 appearances for Stoke City since his £3.25m move to the club three years ago.
