Arsenal have joined Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, who is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

Bosnian international Dzeko is one of several big name stars likely to leave Manchester City at the end of the season as part of a summer clear-out, with his strike partner Carlos Tevez another likely departure. City have already offloaded Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in a £17million deal in the January transfer window.

Reigning champions Borussia Dortmund are keen to take 26-year-old Dzeko back to the Bundesliga, where he made his name with Wolfsburg prior to a £27million move to the Premier League to join Manchester City.

Dzeko, who has spent a vast chunk of the season on the bench and playing a super sub role, is wanted by Dortmund to replace Robert Lewandowski, who is set to move to Bayern Munich in the summer.

But Arsenal are also interested in signing Dzeko, according to the Sunday Mirror, as Arsene Wenger searches for a new forward. He missed out on Barcelona’s David Villa in January, and is expected to make a move for Fiorentina’s £25million-rated striker Stevan Jovetic in the summer.
