Nou Camp side want Stamford Bridge star.
La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly considering a summer move to sign Chelsea star David Luiz as boss Tito Vilanova looks to boost his relatively threadbare defensive options.
fanatix tickets – Manchester City vs Chelsea tickets are on sale from £48 for the match on February 24th at the Etihad Stadium.
Though the Catalan side can boast Gerard Pique and veteran Carles Puyol as their chief central defensive pair, beyond this duo the club does not have all that many other options to call upon. On a number of occasions the club have had to call upon Argentine terrier Javier Mascherano to fill in at the back and now Vilanova looks to bring in adequate alternatives.
David Luiz was a key member of Chelsea’s Champions League winning side and though guilty of the occasional error the Brazilian international is still very highly thought of and the fact that the former Benfica man can also effectively play in a defensive midfield role may also come into Vilanova’s thinking.
If Barcelona do indeed make a big money move for the 25 year old then the West London club may find it tough to keep the battling Brazilian from being tempted by a move to the Nou Camp.
A move to Barcelona may be all the more tempting given the rather disastrous campaign the Stamford Bridge side have had this season. Dumped out of the Champions League at the first hurdle and well and truly out of the title race with the arrival of Rafa Benitez coinciding with a rather shaky period of form.
Chelsea paid around £22m to sign David Luiz just over two years ago and one would imagine any offer Barcelona makes would have to be well in excess of that outlay.
Luiz has made 86 appearances for Chelsea and scored nine goals in the process.
