Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is scouting Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama with a view to a summer bid for the Kenyan international according to the Telegraph.

The 21 year old has been in very impressive form this term after a solid first season at Parkhead ended with an SPL title success.

The young battler has been incredibly effective in Champions League action and it’s these performances which will have most impressed the Gunners boss who apparently sees the Bhoys star as an ideal replacement for Alex Song, with the North London club still to adequately replace the Cameroon international who left for Barcelona last summer.

Wanyama has been strongly linked with a move away from the Glasgow side but Celtic managed to keep hold of the former Beerschot midfielder in the January transfer window, most likely due to the fact that at the time the Scottish club still had a Champions League run to whet his appetite, it may prove very tough to keep hold of the tough tackler this summer.

The lack of an out and out defensive midfielder has left Mikel Arteta filling a holding role and whilst Wanyama is also adept at pushing the play forward, and has a mean long range shot capability, his most positive attribute is his ability to snuff out an opposition attack and that’s the ability that will have gotten Arsene Wenger’s attention.

Celtic paid just £900k to sign Wanyama 18 months ago but his value will have increased ten times by the time the summer transfer window opens up. It’s a price Wenger may well be ready to pay.
