Stamford Bridge starlet target moves to play-down speculation, but has he only made things worse?
Chelsea target Lazar Markovic has admitted visiting Stamford Bridge but denies speculation that he is about to complete a deal to sign for the Blues according to the Express.
fanatix tickets – Manchester City vs Chelsea tickets are on sale from £48 for the match on February 24th at the Etihad Stadium.
The Serbian teenager has been linked with interest from the West London club for some months and press reports earlier this week suggested that the young attacker was Chelsea bound.
Reports in the Serbian press suggested that a £10m deal had been agreed but Markovic has moved to scotch those rumours stating;
“It is true. I was in London, I toured around London and I was also at Stamford Bridge.
“I met my team-mate from national team Branislav Ivanovic, we talked a little bit.
“I also met people from Chelsea, but it is not true that I have signed anything yet or something like that. There is no contract, not a even a pre-contract.
“I had a great time there but it is far from being over.”
Such denials would have to make one wonder why Markovic was meeting ‘people’ from Chelsea at all? The Partizan Belgrade starlet is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football and his representatives would have to be aware that such interaction with the Premier League side is always likely to breed talk of a possible transfer. Perhaps this is the intention?
Last term the 18 year old racked up over 30 appearances as he helped his club to a domestic title. Thus far this term he has six goals in 14 appearances to help Vladimir Vermezovic’s side to the top of the table.
Having won his first senior national team appearance aged just 17 the supporting striker has gone on to win half a dozen caps and proved himself at a higher level.
Abramovich spent over £80m last summer, bringing in the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard, Victor Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta and with a number of the West London club’s stars nearing the end of their careers it seems clear that the Blues are looking to build a nucleus of talent that can help the club challenge for major honours.
