Tottenham will target in-form Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke this summer according to the Daily Mirror.

The North London side will have been impressed by the young Belgian’s form this term and Andre Villas-Boas may well feel that the former Genk man could add to his current attacking options but knows he will have to make a sizable offer in order to persuade the Villa Park side to even consider a move.

Talk of a possible Benteke exit have been sparked by recent comments made by the powerful forward’s agent.

Benteke’s agent, Erik Kismet said: “It is normal that if you go to a club and do well, then other clubs will show an interest.

“Christian has shown that he can play in England so why not take the step up to the next level if the opportunity is there?

“At the end of the season, interested clubs will talk to Villa, but it has to be right for Villa, the buying club and Christian.

“If all three parties are agreeable, something could happen, but right now his focus is on Villa, helping them stay in the Premier League.”

Benteke cost Aston Villa £7m and the summer signing has been the one bright spark of an otherwise disastrous season with the striker scoring 15 goals in all competitions.

One would imagine that if Paul Lambert’s side fail to avoid the drop to the Championship then the chances of an exit will increase significantly.

Villas-Boas has depended greatly on Jermain Defoe this term but the England man has some injury concerns and as yet Emmanuel Adebayor has been unable to hit the highs of his loan spell at the North London club last term managing just three goals in 20 appearances thus far.
