Arsenal and Manchester United are considering moves to sign in-form Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the summer, according to The Sun.

Belgian international stopper Mignolet has been one of the stars of Sunderland’s season, making the most saves of any goalkeeper in the Premier League, and that form has not gone unnoticed.

The 24-year-old, who was signed from Sint-Truiden for just £2million three years ago, had firmly made the number one jersey his own at the Stadium of Light and has another two years of his five-year deal to run.

United are considering Mignolet as an option should David De Gea leave Old Trafford in the summer, with Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic also in the frame. Victor Valdes, who is expected to be sold by Barcelona at the end of the season, could also join United with Arsenal interested in the Spanish international, who is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester City for around £15million.

Sunderland would be reluctant to allow Mignolet, who is one of the brainiest footballers being a university graduate and fluent in numerous languages, to leave on the cheap with the asking price likely to be at least £10million if the Premier League big guns come calling.
