Arsenal are ready to enter the race to sign Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao according to the Daily Express.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger insists his North London club can afford the £40m asking price as well as the 27 year old’s reported £150k a week wage demands.

Arsenal would have to win a race to sign Falcao that would pit the Emirates Stadium side up against Real Madrid, Chelsea and Bayern Munich and clearly Wenger’s side would have to have a Champions League berth in order to tempt the former FC Porto into joining them this summer.

Arsene Wenger is not well known for spending large sums on players, indeed any move to sign Falcao would entail the Premier League side having to at least double their current record transfer fee but it’s a move that Gunners fans would be very happy to see their side make.

The club’s strike-force is certainly one area Wenger may feel he needs to improve this summer and having previously been strongly linked with interest in Stevan Jovetic and David Villa it seems entirely plausible that the Arsenal boss would add to the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott but is a move to sign Falcao likely to succeed?
