Man United have conducted yet another scouting assessment of long term target James Rodriguez fueling further speculation that the Old Trafford side is lining up a summer bid for the Colombian international.

The Daily Mail claims scouts representing the Premier League table toppers were in attendance as FC Porto took on Rio Ave last weekend and that Sir Alex Ferguson us now pondering a move for the talented 21 year old.

Rodriguez is considered one of the brightest talents currently plying their trade in Europe and has been hailed as the ‘South American Cristiano Ronaldo’ and is certainly the type of goal-scoring wide attacking option Ferguson would be interested in.

Previously Man United had been quoted a fee of £24m but seemingly Rodriguez’s current contract includes a release clause of £36m and such a fee could perhaps scare off interest.

Rodriguez helped his side to back to back domestic titles in his first two seasons at the Estadio Dragao, as well as a Europa League triumph, and has risen the bar further during the current campaign.

The youngster is one of the Primeira Liga’s top goalscorers and assist-makers to boot and is a player who has worked incredibly well with compatriot Radamel Falcao at national team level.

Ferguson may well be keen to add some real cutting edge on his flanks due to the fact that neither Luis Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have provided much in this regard this term, indeed the pair have provided just seven assists and not a single goal between them in 36Premier League appearances.
