Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor is set for a summer exit from White Hart Lane following a disappointing season at the London club.

Adebayor signed on a permanent deal from Manchester City during the previous summer but has failed to replicate his form from last season, netting a paltry three goals in 22 appearances.

That has persuaded Portuguese boss Andre Villas-Boas of the need to look elsewhere for attacking options.

But first Tottenham need to remove the handsomely-rewarded Adebayor from the wage bill.

Adebayor is rumoured to be one of the top earners at the club, receiving a package reported to be close to £100,000 a week.

The four-year deal reportedly contains built in increases following the first two years and that has pushed Tottenham into offering Adebayor’s services as he is no longer considered part of the club’s long-term future.

After such a disappointing season however, few clubs are willing to splash out such high wages for a player who can frustrate as much as he can dazzle.

That has not put off mega-bucks Anzhi Makhachkala however, who are keen to see Adebayor line up alongside Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o. The Russian side are happy to splash the cash in order to tempt top names and consider Adebayor to be exactly the kind of player that could improve the club’s profile.
