Man United are reportedly scouting Real Betis midfielder Benat according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The 26 year old has been in fine form over the past 18 months and is now considered to be Xavi’s understudy in Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish national team set-up.

The goal-scoring midfielder is set to leave his La Liga side after refusing to sign a new deal according to Spanish source AS and this may well lead to Sir Alex Ferguson making a formal offer for the cultured midfielder.

Real Betis will demand any interested party stump up the £16m needed to trigger the Basque born playmaker’s release clause.

Benat is one of La Liga’s top assist makers and could well be the type of creative talent Ferguson is looking to bring in freshen up his relatively brittle midfield.

Ferguson may feel that a midfield that boasts the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson, Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes could well do with a burst of forward momentum, that is at times provided by up and coming star Tom Cleverley.

Benat would presumably jump at the chance of a move to Old Trafford but other La Liga sides may well be interested in signing the Spanish international.
