Liverpool are keen on Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet and are willing to offer former Black Cats midfielder Jordan Henderson in an exchange deal to win the race for the highly rated Belgian international according to the Daily Mirror.

The Anfield side’s interest in Mignolet could perhaps bring in to question the long term future of Liverpool regular Pepe Reina, with this source believing Brendan Rodgers is certain the Spaniard will look to leave the Merseyside club this summer.

Mignolet has been in tremendous form thus far this season with the Sunderland custodian coming up against the most shots in Premier League football this term but still managing to keep nine clean sheets, only two keepers managing more this season.

The 24 year old is being targeted by a number of interested parties but Rodgers may feel that the addition of England man Henderson into the bargain may tempt Martin O’Neill into a sale.

Though Jordan Henderson has improved of late but many still believe the £17m fee Liverpool paid still constitutes something of a financial mistake and therefore Rodgers may be ready to use the youngster to help land Mignolet.

Henderson has been handed just eight Premier League starts thus far this season.
