Arsenal have set their sights on Dutch youngster Jordy Clasie with Arsene Wenger seeing the highly rated youngster as a possible midfield partner for Jack Wilshere according to the Metro.

The Gunners will challenge Tottenham in pursuit of Feyenoord midfielder Clasie who has been in excellent form for his Rotterdam club, helping Ronald Koeman’s side to mount a genuine Eredivisie title challenge this term.

Clasie, who has been dubbed the ‘Dutch Xavi’, is also being chased by Serie A side Fiorentina but Arsene Wenger will look to win the race to snap up the combative midfielder who the Arsneal boss would like to form a midfield pairing with Wilshere at the heart of the North London side’s starting line-up.

The 21 year old is into his second season in the Feyenoord first team having enjoyed a good first term out on loan to Excelsior.

Clasie has forced his way into Louis Van Gaal’s Dutch national team set-up and is drawing rave reviews which have led to growing speculation that he will leave the Dutch top tier sooner rather than later.

Clearly if Arsenal can secure a Champions League berth then they stand a better chance of beating local rivals Spurs to such a signing and clearly this will be a bigger obstacle that Wenger will have to overcome in terms of all his summer transfer dealing.
