Barcelona’s search for defensive reinforcements has reportedly taken them to Anfield, with the Catalan side placing Liverpool defender Daniel Agger at the top of their summer wish-list according to the Daily Mirror.

The Nou Camp side see the Danish international as the ideal man to act as a long term replacement for aging Spaniard Carles Puyol.

Brendan Rodgers may well be open to such a move with the Northern Irishman apparently looking to rebuild his back four having identified the likes of Swansea City’s Ashley Williams, Feyenoord’s Stefan de Vrij and Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho on the Liverpool radar.

Though 28 year old Agger has suffered with injuries the tough tackling adaptable defender, who can also at full back as well as in the centre of defence, could still be a very useful addition to a Barcelona squad that doesn’t have all that many options at present.

Gerard Pique is the mainstay of Tito Vilanova’s defence but midfielder Javier Mascherano is commonly used at the back though youngster Marc Bartra is starting to gain some headway in the Barcelona first team.

This source also claims Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates could be heading for the Liverpool exit with Jamie Carragher also set to retire from the game this summer.
