Arsenal are set to make a summer move for Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain. Gunner’s boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements after seeing his side fall away in the race for a Champions League spot.

The North London side are set to return to the transfer market once again after finding themselves disappointed with the performances of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud.

The pair were brought in to replace Dutchman Robin Van Persie, who left for current league leaders Manchester United, but have failed to live up to expectations in their debut seasons.

That has seen Wenger draw up a shortlist of attacking targets, headed by Madrid’s Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain.

The Spanish club are reportedly willing to sell the player should the right bid come in as they look for a striker with better movement to provide a foil for prolific winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite being deemed surplus to requirements at Real Madrid, Higuain has an accomplished record at the highest level and Arsenal are desperate for a forward who can hit the back of the net on a regular basis.

Madrid are likely to demand in excess of £25 million for the player, who has also been linked with Italian side Juventus.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to match that though as they look to splash the cash and rebuild a side that looks set to finish outside the top four for the first time since Arsene Wenger joined the club.
