Tottenham legend Clive Allen has urged the club not to sell star winger Gareth Bale according to talkSport.

The Welsh winger has been in scintillating form this season for the North London club and has attracted the attention of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Reports have suggested both clubs may come in with £50 million-plus bids come the summer but Allen is keen to see Spurs build a team around the player rather than cash in on his value.

‘I’m sure they’re going to make every effort to hold onto him because you can’t replace someone like that’, Allen told talkSport’s Sports Breakfast.

‘They lost Luka Modric last year, who I think is an outstanding player. But I think it’s maybe too soon for Gareth to leave England and go play in Spain.

‘I hope Tottenham make every effort to keep him for two or three more years if they can.’

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Tottenham have offered Bale a new contract, with wages in the region of £150,000 a week, in an attempt to persuade the player to resist the overtures of the Spanish giants.

Tottenham’s position will be made stronger should they successfully qualify for the Champions League. They currently sit in third place, seven points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal.
