Alessandro Matri insists he is not on the verge of a move to Arsenal according to talkSport.

Matri has played just sixteen games for the Old Lady this season and reports in recent weeks have suggested that Juventus boss Antonio Conte would be willing to listen to offers for the player.

That has prompted speculation that Matri could make a move to the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are known to be in the market for a striker after seeing summer signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud endure disappointing debut seasons.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add reinforcements to his side as they look set to fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under the Frenchman’s reign.

But Matri has insisted he wants to fight for his place with the Italian giants.

‘It’s clear that I want to play in every game, but I’ve always felt like the club have backed me, that they have always been close to me. That’s a nice thing for players who are not used all of the time’, Matri told Tuttosport.

‘When I’ve been called into action I’ve been ready and the side hasn’t missed who I have replaced. If I am made to feel like an important player then I would prefer to stay at Juventus, rather than join another club who could perhaps offer me more playing time.’

Should Conte bring further striking options this summer, to add to incoming Spaniard Fernando Llorente, one would wonder if Matri would be quite so clear about his desire to remain at the Turin side.
