Chelsea are reportedly now the front-runners in the race to sign £43m rated Colombian Radamel Falcao according to the Daily Mail.
The West London side may well see the Atletico Madrid man as the ideal man to replace Spanish flop Fernand Torres and it is believed that the Vicente Calderon side have resigned themselves to losing the former FC Porto man and have in turn set their sights on Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.
Atletico, known for cashing in on their top talents, are believed to favour a move to sell to Chelsea as they will look to then sew up a permanent deal to sign Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois in part exchange for Falcao.
Courtois is into his second season on loan at the La Liga side and has been a big hit with Diego Simeone’s side and is seemingly a player the Blues can afford to use as a makeweight given that Petr Cech is still the club’s number one custodian by some distance.
Roman Abramovich appears ready to bite the bullet and give up on £50m man Torres and knows that Chelsea fans will want to see a ‘Marquee’ signing or two to make up for what has been something of a disastrous season thus far.
