Man United are apparently happy to hand Wayne Rooney a new contract, despite speculation surrounding the 27 year old’s future at Old Trafford, however the England man will have to take a pay-cut in the process according to the Daily Mail.

Rooney has two years to run on his current contract but Man United will ask Rooney to take a reduction on his current £230k a week deal if he is to sign an extension, an offer that the attacker may not be all that keen on.

This source believes such a reduction would be due to Rooney playing a less dominant role in the Man United first team set-up, again not a situation that the former Everton man would be all that keen on agreeing to, with PSG apparently monitoring the situation.

The Daily Mail believe that the big spending Ligue 1 side are interested in Rooney and watching to see how things develop between now and the end of the season.

Despite something of an up and down campaign on an individual level Rooney has still netted 11 goals from 16 Premier League starts but the fact he was left out of the starting eleven for the Real Madrid clash will surely have given the striker cause for concern.

Rooney is now Man United’s fourth highest goal-scorer of all time and as such may well feel he deserved more respect from Sir Alex Ferguson, who clearly felt, for whatever reason, that he could do without the forward in the crucial Champions League encounter.
