Arsenal are set to enter the summer transfer market for Spanish pair Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina according to The Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger has become increasingly unsure of current no.1 Wojciech Szczesny and is keen to bring in some competition for the Pole once the transfer market re-opens. Szczesny has seen his performances come under increased scrutiny this season after a number of high profile blunders.

Barcelona are reported to be bracing themselves for a summer bid for their current number one, Victor Valdes, after the goalkeeper announced his intention to leave the club at the end of the season.

Valdes still has a year to run on his contract but the Catalan giants are set to grant Valdes his wish and cash in on the player rather than risk losing him for nothing. It is rumoured that a bid of £8 million might be enough to seal Valdes’ signature.

Arsenal are keeping their options open though and should they find themselves priced out of a move for Valdes, they are likely to return for long-term target, Pepe Reina.

Reina was once considered amongst the best goalkeepers in the Premier League but has struggled for form in recent seasons and that could persuade Liverpool of the benefits of parting ways with the goalkeeper.
