Real Madrid have told Manchester United to forget about signing their Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo according to The Daily Mail.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Ronaldo could be set for a return to Old Trafford and he was said to be touched by the warm reception he received from the United faithful during the clubs’ Champions League ties.

Nike were there then rumoured to be in talks with the Premier League leaders over financing a possible move that would see the winger return to English football.

While United have not distanced themselves from the speculation, is thought Ronaldo may be using the reported interest to engineer an improved contract.

Madrid have certainly made it clear that they have no interest in opening negotiations regarding a possible move.

Real director Emilio Butragueno said ‘Cristiano is under contract and we are very happy with him. We are delighted he is at Madrid because he is a fantastic professional and very ambitious in a positive way.

‘His contribution to the team and the club has been amazing since he arrived. We are very grateful he came to us and are lucky he plays for Real Madrid.’

Ronaldo has been in prolific form this season, netting 38 goals in all competitions.
