Real Madrid are set to test Tottenham’s resolve to hold on to midfielder Gareth Bale according to The Metro.

Reports are suggesting that the Spanish giants are preparing a player plus cash bid for the Welsh winger.

It is being suggested that Madrid are ready to throw in Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain into the deal for the midfielder.

Tottenham are known to be in the market for a striker after having to complete the current season with just two recognised forwards.

While Jermain Defoe has led the line admirably, questions have been raised over Manu Adebayor’s attitude after a number of disappointing performances this season.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is said to be keen to avoid a repeat for next season and is hoping to bring in at least two attacking reinforcements.

Madrid are hoping that the chance to receive Higuain as part payment will persuade the Londoners to do business.

Bale has been in scintillating form recently, netting ten goals in his last nine games.

That has prompted speculation that Barcelona and Real Madrid were preparing £50 million bids for the player but Spurs have offered Bale a new contract reportedly worth £150,000 a week in the hope of persuading the player to commit to the club for another season.
