Russian club keen to tempt Italian manager.

Russian side Zenit St Petersburg are set to make an ambitious attempt to sign Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini according to The Mirror.

Zenit are reportedly considering their options after finding themselves sitting in third place in the Russian League, behind CSKA Moscow and big-spending Anzhi Makhachkala.

That has prompted the club’s management to draw up a shortlist of potential replacements for current boss Luciano Spalletti.

City boss Mancini remains popular amongst the Etihad faithful after guiding them to their first ever Premier League trophy with a last-gasp victory over QPR in the final game of last season.

He has not enjoyed the same success this season though and has had to watch his side lose significant ground to city rivals Manchester United in the race for the Premier League.

The Italian boss has publically declared his desire to rebuild the City squad come the summer, believing that many of his title winning squad have since become complacent.

Zenit are hoping to pounce on Mancini’s annoyance and tempt with an offer of a new project.

Should Mancini decide to move to the Russian club, he is likely to receive significant financial backing after the club splashed out over £64 million last summer on the likes of Brazilian striker Hulk and Belgian midfielder Alex Witsel.
