The Argentine forward has less than 15 months remaining on his current deal and reports in recent weeks had suggested the player might be set for an exit from the Etihad Stadium come the summer.
But the club’s administrator, Brian Marwood has poured cold water on those suggestions by insisting that talks are already under way with Tevez over a new deal.
The former Manchester United player has enjoyed a turbulent time at City. He went on self-imposed exile to Argentina after falling out with City boss Roberto Mancini after he allegedly refused to come on as a substitute in a game against Bayern Munich.
The pair managed to put the incident behind them though and Tevez’s goals eventually helped fire City to their first ever Premier League title.
Tevez has formed a formidable partnership at the club with his national team colleague Sergio Aguero and City are keen to secure the player’s future.
‘Everyone knows Carlos has only a year left on his contract but he has been fantastic for Manchester City, his scoring record, his tenacity, his energy’, said Marwood.
‘I think he is in a good place at the moment. Roberto Mancini has talked about extending Tevez’s contract and these conversations will continue in the summer.
‘We have had no offers and Carlos is happy at the club. Discussions will take place at the end of the season in terms of his future at City.’
