Check in to Manchester United vs Reading

The players at Reading are not keen on the possibility of Paolo Di Canio taking the vacant managerial post according to The Daily Mail.

The Royals are currently looking for a new manager after parting ways with Brian McDermott on Monday.

The club’s owner Anton Zingarevich met with Director of Football Nicky Hammond on Wednesday to discuss possible replacements.

The bookies’ currently have former Swindon boss Di Canio as favourite to take over but reports are suggesting the players would not be responsive to such an appointment.

Di Canio regularly made the headlines during his tenure at Swindon after a number of public bust-ups with his players.

Senior members of the Reading dressing room have expressed their concerns to Royals officials that the appointment of Di Canio could have a negative effect on the team.

Reading are currently fighting for Premier League survival but sit in 19th place and are four points off Aston Villa who sit in the safety of 17th.

The club will be looking for the new manager to galvanise the players as they prepare for the final months of the season and it is thought the attitude of the Reading squad towards Di Canio’s potential appointment could severly hamper his chances of landing the job.

Roberto Di Matteo, Nigel Adkins and Gus Poyet are also thought to be in contention for the job.
