Real Madrid are preparing to keep a close eye on Tottenham’s Gareth Bale over the coming months according to The Metro.

The Spanish giants are rumoured to be preparing a mega-bucks bid for the player this summer and are keen to track the player’s progress before deciding how much money they may be willing to part with for the player.

Madrid are set to put chief scout Luis Campos in charge of running the rule over Bale and he has been given a team of assistants to watch the White Hart Lane star until the end of the season.

Reports in recent weeks are suggesting that Madrid President Florentino Perez has made Bale the club’s top summer transfer target. The club are reportedly considering making a £40 million offer for Bale but it is thought that Tottenham will hold out for closer to the £55 million mark.

Madrid may seek to make up the difference by offering one of Luka Modric, Gonzalo Higuain or Fabio Coentrao in part-exchange.

Tottenham are hoping to hang on to the player and have offered him a new contract thought to be in the region of £150,000 a week in an attempt to persuade the player to stay on for another season.
