Arsenal duo Wojciech Szczesny and Thomas Vermaelen are set for a summer departure from the club according to The Daily Mail.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to revitalise his squad after seeing his side lose ground to Tottenham and Chelsea in the race for the Champions League.

The Gunners are currently facing the prospect of failing to qualify for Europe’s elite tournament for the first time under Arsene Wenger’s management of the club.

The Frenchman is keen to avoid a repeat next season and has identified Szczesny and Vermaelen for the Arsenal exit door.

Polish goalkeeper Szczesny impressed with his performances last season but has failed to replicate that form this year and has committed a number of high profile mistakes that could cost his side dearly come the end of the season.

Arsenal have been linked with the likes of Victor Valdes, Pepe Reina and Simon Mignolet in recent weeks and it appears Szczesny’s time as Arsenal number one is coming to an end.

Wenger is reportedly keen to hold on to Szczesny, believing the player to have a bright future, but it is thought the youngster will leave in search of first-team football.

Wenger is also keen to bring in a centre-back after being disappointed with Vermaelen this year. The French manager believes a defender with greater leadership qualities is needed and will ship out the Belgian defender to make space in his squad for a new arrival.

Reports in recent weeks have linked Barcelona with a potential move for Vermaelen.
