Arsenal are set to make a summer bid for Atletico Madrid’s Adrian Lopez according to reports.

The North London side were strongly linked with the player’s signature during the January transfer window, but saw talks break down after the two clubs failed to agree a fee for the player.

Madrid were reportedly keen for the North London club to match the player’s £14 million release clause in his contract but it is thought Wenger was reluctant to match that amount.

The French manager has since had a change of heart after seeing his side fall away to the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea in the race for the Champions League.

Arsenal are facing the prospect of failing to qualify for Europe’s elite competition for the first time since Wenger joined the club.

Part of the blame has been attributed to the failure to properly replace Dutch striker Robin Van Persie, who left the club to join league leaders Manchester United last summer.

Summer recruits Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud have endured disappointing debut seasons and that is set to pave the way for Wenger to return to the transfer market come the summer.

Wenger is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements to ensure there is no repeat next season and is ready to make Lopez of his top summer targets.
