The German defender reveals reason for side’s improved defending in recent games.
Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker has revealed the reason why his side have seen their defending improve in recent games according to The Daily Mail.
The Gunners have dropped a number of points in the race for a Champions League qualification spot this season after a number of high profile defensive mistakes.
But in recent weeks the Arsenal backline seem to have ironed them out as they have gone on to keep a clean sheet away in Germany against Bayern Munich as well as shutting out Swansea in the Premier League at the weekend.
German defender has revealed that the side’s improved defending has arisen as a result of a frank training ground discussion amongst the Arsenal defenders last month.
The Gunners’ backline decided to have a private video session together after being left embarrassed by their defending during the 2-1 defeat to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Mertesacker said having watched the video together, the Arsenal players had learnt a lot about how to cover each other better.
He believes the backline are now stronger as a unit than they had been in previous games.
It may come too late to save their Emirates careers however, with speculation continuing to swirl regarding the futures of Mertesacker and his partner Thomas Vermaelen.
