Manchester City were dealt a blow when Santos’ Neymar left the club out of a list of his dream destinations according to The Mirror.

The Brazilian striker has been the subject of constant speculation in recent months, with reports suggesting the wonderkid could be set for a huge £50 million transfer this summer.

The player has been linked with a host of elite European clubs and will likely be able to take his pick regarding his eventual destination.

Barcelona have reportedly already agreed a pre-contract deal with Neymar but the Catalan giants are wary that a club with the financial resources of Manchester City or PSG could tempt the Brazilian to break the agreement and stump up the compensation Barcelona would then be due.

It was thought that Manchester City were considering making such an approach for the player but may not be put off after the player failed to mention them his list of preferred destinations.

‘Who wouldn’t dream of playing alongside Lionel Messi, Xavi and Iniesta?’, said Neymar.

‘They’re all great players. I dream of playing in Europe, for a big club like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

‘Yes, Barcelona, they have great players like Xavi, Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and Dani Alves.

‘But there’s no point speculating when I’ll leave Santos. I’ll leave when I want to.

‘I don’t know where I would fit in if I joined Barca, but I know my place is at Santos right now.’

Santos have reportedly offered the striker a new contract in the hopes of persuading the youngster to remain in Brazil until after the World Cup next summer.

Neymar may well be tempted by the offer instead of risking a move to Europe as he hopes to secure his place in the Brazilian national team.
