Premier League clubs were placed on alert after Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen claimed there was a 50% chance he would leave the club this summer according to talkSport.

The Danish midfielder is rated as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe after some impressive performances for the Dutch giants in recent seasons.

Eriksen is out of contract at the end of next season and Ajax are thought to be keen to move the player on this summer rather than risk losing him on a Bosman free transfer.

Liverpool and Manchester United were thought to be keen on the player but their interest is said to have diminished after they signed Phillipe Coutinho and Shinji Kagawa respectively.

The North London clubs, Tottenham and Arsenal, remain keen on securing the player’s signature though and that could place even more importance on the race for the Champions League as both clubs seek to persuade Eriksen to sign.

Andre Villas-Boas is thought to consider Eriksen as a cheaper alternative to Joao Moutinho as reports in recent weeks have suggested the Portuguese midfielder’s price could become inflated following interest from Ligue 1 side PSG.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also keen to bring in reinforcements in the midfield following concerns over the long-term fitness of Jack Wilshere.
