Manchester City Captain Vincent Kompany In Line For Belgium Appearance

Club captain set to play despite recent injury problems.

Belgium are set to incur the wrath of Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini according to Goal.com.

The national team are preparing to play Etihad captain Vincent Kompany in their up-coming games against Macedonia.

The centre-back has not played for the Premier League Champions since they played Fulham on the 19th January as he has been struggling with a calf injury.

That absence from the team has coincided with City slipping to a huge 15 point gap between them and leaders Manchester United.

They now look certain to fail in their bid to land the title but Mancini felt he had no choice but to rest the player as he nurses the player back to full fitness.

But Belgium have drafted the player into their squad and will ask their physios to run their own assessment on the defender.

They are hoping Kompany will be able to appear in at least one, if not both, of their World Cup qualification games against the Macedonians.

City boss Mancini has expressed his anger at the player being rushed back into action.

The Italian has reiterated his desire for Kompany to sit out the games insisting an extended period of rest is vital to prevent a recurrence of the injury.
