Monaco are readying a £20m bid for Newcastle United playmaker Yohan Cabaye according to the Daily Star.

The principality’s Russian billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is ready to bankroll the club and no doubt hopes to emulate PSG in the long term and has set his sights on the Mapgies star.

The Ligue 2 side are set for a return to the top tier under boss Claudio Ranieri and have earmarked moves for a number of big name players but any move for Cabaye could prove problematic given that the former Lille man is under contract with the St James’ Park side until June 2016.

On the other hand Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley spent big to sign six new additions in January and could be tempted by a move to quadruple the £4.8m invested in Cabaye in July 2011.

Cabaye has been a consistent performer since his move to Newcastle United and is now a regular in the French national team set-up but a move to Monaco, with the undoubted riches that would no doubt result in such a switch, could prove hard to resist for the 27 year old.
