Arsenal have been told to stump up over £25m if they want to win the race to sign long term target Stevan Jovetic. The Daily Express claims that Fiorentina are after a big sum for their prized asset and are hoping to start a bidding war for the Montenegro international.

Given that Arsenal’s current transfer record spend is £15m a move to bring in Jovetic would involve Arsene Wenger smashing that fee and one wonders if the Gunners boss is ready to do so.

Wenger has reportedly been handed a big transfer warchest but may still not be keen on using a sizable portion of it on one player.

Jovetic has been in excellent form over the past 18 months, netting 14 goals in 27 Serie A appearances last term and already has another dozen to his name during the current campaign.

Viola boss Vincenzo Montella already appears to be planning for Jovetic’s exit having brought in Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi in January despite the former Man United man still being sidelined with a long term injury.

Arsenal could well do with strengthening their attack, with Wenger relying heavily on Olivier Giroud this season but an offer of over £25m for Jovetic would be something of a surprise.
