Barcelona remain confident of persuading their goalkeeper Victor Valdes to stay at the club according to talkSport.

The Spanish goalkeeper recently announced his intention to leave the Nou Camp as he goes in search of a new challenge elsewhere.

Valdes has sparked the interest of a number of top European sides who are all keen to secure the goalkeeper’s services.

Arsene Wenger is known to be on the look-out for a new goalkeeper after finally running out of patience with the erratic displays of young Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Liverpool are also thought to be monitoring Valdes’ availability as they consider the prospect of Pepe Reina leaving the club to ply his trade elsewhere.

Valdes has insisted he will not be signing a new deal at the club and it is thought that if no new contract is agreed by the end of the season, Barcelona would look to sell the goalkeeper rather than risk losing the player for nothing when his contract expires in June 2014.

But Barcelona President Sandro Rosell has insisted that nothing has been decided and that convincing Valdes to stay is the club’s third priority after winning trophies and restoring the health of cancer-struck boss Tito Vilanova.
