Man United are reportedly obsessed with Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio according to Italian source TuttoSport.

They claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has had his sights firmly set on the goal-scoring midfielder since 2010 and are ready to offer as much as £25m for the 27 year old who could perhaps be the man the Scot sees as providing his Old Trafford side with a midfield goal-threat, so in many ways seen as a long term replacement for Paul Scholes in his pomp.

The Turin born one club man would seemingly have little reason to consider a move away from Juventus given the club’s recent success with Antonio Conte’s side likely to secure back to back Serie A titles and comfortably through to the Champions League quarter-finals to boot but that hasn’t lessened Ferguson’s interest.

Marchisio scored 11 goals in all competitions last term and has racked up another seven during the current campaign and has been a regular in Cesare Prandelli’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ferguson could well do with alternative attacking options in a midfield that is perhaps a little too brittle. The likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson, Darren Fletcher, and to a lesser extent Tom Cleverley, don’t provide all that much in the way of a goal threat.
