League One promotion chasers Coventry City have been docked ten points for entering administration.

A hearing on Tuesday ruled that the Ricoh Arena side are “in administration” after City were taken to court to face an administration order from their landlords, Arena Coventry Ltd, over a year’s unpaid rent of £1.3m.

Coventry City released an official statement on the matter stating;

The were “disappointed by the decision” adding that they “understand the Football League’s course of action in accordance with its rules and regulations.”

They went on to state:

“We welcome the offer for further dialogue which we hope to commence at the earliest available opportunity.

“Coventry City Football Club has the right to appeal the decision within seven days and discussions have already started with regards to the club’s next official course of action.”

Coventry City’s penalty sees them drop from tenth spot to 14th and now some 15 points from the play-off spots with just six games to play, effectively ending their hopes of promotion to the Championship.

The West Midlands side were relegated from the Premier League back in 2001.
