Harry Redknapp has downplayed the prospect of Joey Barton returning to QPR according to talkSport.

The bad-boy midfielder currently finds himself out on loan at French club Marseille after finding himself hounded out of the club by former boss Mark Hughes.

Hughes eventually ran out of patience with the former Newcastle and Manchester City midfielder after he lashed out at Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Vincent Kompany in the final game of last season.

QPR’s survival in the Premier League at that point was uncertain and the club finally decided to move the player on after his brash display of aggression could have ultimately cost the club their Premier League status.

Barton subsequently received a lengthy ban from the FA that paved the way for a move to Ligue 1.

QPR midfielder Shaun Derry prompted speculation the club could be willing to forgive Barton after he admitted the team have missed the player’s qualities in the middle of the park.

But Redknapp has stated he would be surprised where Barton to return to Loftus Road.

While the former Spurs manager refused to rule it out, he suggested that Barton is enjoying life in Marseille and is unlikely to desire a return to Premier League football.
