Magpies set to make summer bid for Ligue 1 star.

Check in to Manchester City vs Newcastle United

Newcastle have been monitoring the progress of St Etienne’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to The Times.

The Magpies have sent chief scout Graham Carr to keep tabs on the player as they prepare a summer bid for the Ligue 1 star.

The club are keen to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer after losing Demba Ba to Chelsea during the January transfer window.

The Newcastle hierarchy are keen to continue their policy of buying players from the French league as they believe there is much more value to be found in Ligue 1 compared with buying established Premier League stars.

Aubameyang has been in great form in France this season and has been attracting the attention of a host of top European sides.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG have all been linked with the player’s signature.

But Newcastle are hoping to tempt the player to St James’ Park with the prospect of joining a growing contingent of stars who have previously plied their trade in the French top flight.

Aubameyang has been nicknamed the ‘African Neymar’ on account of his clinical finishing and trademark Mohawk haircut.

St Etienne are thought to be demanding a fee in the region of £15 million for the player’s services.
