St Mary’s side prepare big money bid for Cagliari defender.
Southampton have set their sights on Cagliari centre-back Davide Astori and are ready to offer as much as £10m for the 26 year old according to the Daily Mail.
Napoli and Spartak Moscow are also said to be interest in the Italian international but the South-Coast side will hope they can secure a deal to sign the former AC Milan man.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino may well be keen to strengthen a defence that has conceded 52 goals in 30 Premier League fixtures and such a move would be a statement of intent from the St Mary’s side but would presumably only occur if Southampton successfully avoid the drop.
The powerful defender has apparently set his sights on a move to the Premier League and may feel that a switch to Southampton would be a sensible one to consider in terms of retaining a regular first team spot as he looks to re-ignite his push for a part in Cesare Prandelli’s national team plans with a World Cup on the horizon.
