Check in to Arsenal vs Reading

Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has urged his team mates not to waste any energy listening to those who criticise the team according to The Independent.

The Spanish defender believes the club should instead remain firmly focused on their goal of achieving qualification for the Champions League.

There has been significant murmurs of discontent at the Emirates this season as Arsenal prepare for the prospect of failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under manager Arsene Wenger’s reign.

The club are currently lying in fifth place in the Premier League, four points behind bitter rivals Tottenham although they can reduce that gap to just one point should they win their game in hand.

The Gunners travel to Reading this weekend knowing they can come away with nothing less than three points if they want to keep the pressure on Spurs.

Arsenal are currently in good form, having lost just once in their last seven league games although crucially, that one defeat came to Tottenham.

Monreal has expressed his confidence though that should the team keep focused, they have every chance of leapfrogging Spurs and securing a place in next season’s Champions League tournament.

Monreal has impressed for the Gunners since joining the club from Malaga in January and netted his first goal for Arsenal during the club’s 2-0 win over Swansea.
