Arsenal have been linked with a move to re-sign Cameroon international Alex Song according to the Daily Express.

The 25 year old defensive midfielder has struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp and first team football has been something of a rare commodity for the tough tackler, even rarer than he might have expected given the quality in Tito Vilanova’s squad.

Song has started just ten of Barcelona’s 29 La Liga fixtures this season and has, perhaps unkindly, been considered by the Spanish media as one of the worst signings of the current campaign.

Given that Arsene Wenger hasn’t replaced Song, opting instead to use Mikel Arteta in an unfamiliar holding role, and as such could be open to a bringing the former Gunners star back to the Emirates Stadium.

This source suggests that a fee of £12.7m might be acceptable to Barcelona and claim that Arsenal’s board are to offer Arsene Wenger ample funds to cover such a valuation.

One wonders if Wenger would consider such a move or instead opt for the pursuit of an alternative ‘enforcer’ signing, a position that the North London side certainly need to fill, not least because Abou Diaby has once again suffered a severe injury that will leave him out of action for as long as nine months.
