Striker set to miss the club’s next three games.

Tottenham have been hit by the news that Jermain Defoe will miss the club’s next three matches according to Sky Sports.

The England striker is reportedly set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury.

He is certain to miss the club’s Europa League quarter-final tie against Swiss side Basel on Thursday. The club are also likely to be without Defoe’s services for their upcoming Premier League games against Everton and Chelsea.

The injury could not come at a worse time for Spurs as they look to finish the season strongly and secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

Andre Vilas-Boas’ men currently sit third in the Premier League, two points ahead of Chelsea and four points clear of fifth placed Arsenal but both of their London rivals have a game in hand on Tottenham.

Defoe’s injury leaves Vilas-Boas with just one recognised striker in his squad, Togo forward Manu Adebayor.

Adebayor signed for the club on a permanent deal from Manchester City last summer but has failed to replicate his form from last season, scoring just twice for the club and failing to hit the back of the net since January.

It is thought bringing in a new striker is a top priority for the club this summer.
