Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle according to ESPN.

The German forward has been on the club’s radar for some time after some impressive performances for his club in the German Bundesliga.

The player has netted seven times in 22 appearances for his club this season and it now appears Chelsea have made their move in their bid to bring the player to Stamford Bridge.

It is thought that Chelsea have offered Bayer Leverkusen a player plus cash deal, involving Belgian youngster Kevin de Bruyne.

De Bruyne has been spending the season out on loan at German side Werder Bremen and has been attracting the attention of a number of Bundesliga sides.

Chelsea have decided that the player remains unlikely to break into their first team at this stage and have offered him to Leverkusen as a sweetener in the deal for 22 year old Schurrle.

De Bruyne will move on a season long loan deal to Leverkusen alongside a fee though to be in the region of £22 million.

Schurrle refused to comment on the speculation insisting he was focused only on helping Bayer Leverkusen qualify for next season’s Champions League. Leverkusen currently sit 3rd in the Bundesliga, six points clear of Eintracht Frankfurt who lie outside the Champions League qualification spots in fifth.
