Inter and Lazio eyeing up summer move for Dutch midfielder.

Check in to Liverpool vs West Ham United

Italian giants Inter Milan and Lazio are preparing summer bids for Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay according to Goal.com.

The Dutch midfielder is currently playing for Bundesliga side Schalke where he is enjoying a season long loan spell.

Afellay has put in a number of impressive performances for the German side and is attracting the attention of a number of top European sides.

The player has been told he is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and looks certain to leave the Catalan giants this summer.

Inter and Lazio reportedly attempted to sign Afellay last summer but Barcelona were only willing to let the player leave on loan.

Barcelona are now thought to be willing to release Afellay in return for a fee around the £5 million mark.

The 27 year old joined Barcelona from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in January 2011 and helped the club to a Champions League trophy within his first six months.

But the player’s career has since been blighted by injuries which have hampered his progress at the Nou Camp, as well as during his current loan spell with Schalke.

The player remains highly rated though, and the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are thought to be ready to challenge the Italian sides for the player’s signature.
