Sir Alex Ferguson will look to tempt Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze into a move to Old Trafford this summer. The Old Trafford boss is keen to freshen up his midfield and is ready to make a bumper offer for the highly rated German international.

The Man United manager is ready to offer up to £35m for the 20 year old playmaker, who he hopes will help add creativity to his midfield.

Ferguson believes that his squad lacks a midfield goal-scoring threat and sees Gotze as part of his long term plans and will hope to convince the youngster to push for a Westfalenstadion exit at the end of the current campaign.

Borussia Dortmund will see their Bundesliga crown snatched by Bayern Munich this term and with a number of Jurgen Klopp’s side linked with summer exits Ferguson will hope to repeat his successful raiding of the German side last summer when he brought in Shinji Kagawa in a £12m deal.

Gotze has turned in another strong season this term, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions, helping his side to a Champions League quarter-final, and is being pursued by a number of Europe’s ‘Elite’.

Borussia Dortmund would be loathed to lose the youngster, who is now a regular in Joachim Low’s national team set-up, but a £35m offer may be one they consider if the German international expresses a desire to leave the club.

Ferguson will look to conduct something of a midfield shake-up this summer with Brazilian Anderson linked with a Man United exit after failing to impress on a regular basis. Veteran Paul Scholes may well be set to hang up his boots this summer whilst Darren Fletcher continues to recover from long term illness.

Gotze has already made over 100 top tier appearances for Borussia Dortmund and has 22 senior national team caps to his name, quite an achievement given the pint sized performer is still a couple of months shy of his 21st birthday.
